Son of Mount Krakatau Removes Black Smoke and Hot Clouds

Fokus Pos. Gunung Anak Krakatau has released black smoke and hot clouds since Friday (12/28) morning. The report was based on observations of the observation station on Sertung Island.

The Head of Observation Post at Gunung Anak Krakatau Windi Cahya Untung delivered a hot cloud towards the Indian Ocean. The booming sound also accompanies volcanic activity.

"Strong pressure crater smoke was observed to be black with thick and high intensity of 200-600 meters above the crater peak. Heat clouds were observed to the south," Windi said on Friday (12/28).

Anak Krakatau was not visible from the Observation Post because it was covered in clouds.

Windi said that currently the weather around Anak Krakatau is cloudy and cloudy. Seismic activity also never stops.

"Tremor continuous or microtremor recorded with an amplitude of 8-35 millimeters, dominant 20 millimeters," he said.

He asked residents and tourists in the Banten Coast region to remain cautious.

"People or tourists are not allowed to approach the crater within a 5 kilometer radius of the crater," he said.

The status of Gunung Anak Krakatau since Thursday (27/12) rose from alert or level II to level III or standby.
