Narcotics Crime in the Police Body Increases 221 Percent

Suara Id. Members of the Republic of Indonesia Police (Polri) affected by discipline and criminal related narcotics have increased this year compared to before. National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said the increase occurred in two things, namely an increase in the narcotics consumption sector and drug criminal offenses.

"Discrimination in drug consumption increases by 2.8 percent, while criminal drug abuse has increased 221 percent," Tito said at the National Police Headquarters' Release Event, South Jakarta, Thursday (12/27).

In 2017 there were 289 violations of police who were disciplined because of using narcotics. Meanwhile, throughout 2018 there were 297 members who consumed narcotics.

"There are 76 violations in 2017, while there are 244 violations in this year," Tito explained.

Tito said that the increase in findings of violations occurred a lot because of the more intensive internal supervision carried out by his party. Or, continued Tito, it could be an increase in narcotics crimes indeed because of the pure increase in cases.

"Indeed, the increase or internal operations have intensified so that the numbers have risen. This is driven by proactive efforts and firmness of the National Police leadership to take action against violations including those carried out internally by the National Police," said the former Jakarta Police Chief of Police.

In addition to narcotics crimes, Tito explained that a number of other violations recorded in the annual report released today were immoral and fraudulent.

While cases of molestation carried out by Polri personnel increased from the number of one case in 2017 to three cases in 2018.

However, said Tito, the overall number of disciplinary violations in 2018 decreased 54 percent or as many as 2,705 cases compared to 2017 as many as 5,904.

Finally, the number of violations of the National Police Professional Code of Ethics (KEPP) increased 67 percent or 1,287 cases in 2018 and criminal violations increased 70 percent or 292 cases in 2018.
