Prabowo's camp wants a moderator who does not side with the Candidate Pair
Channel Nasional. Spokesperson for the National Winning Body (BPN) Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno Andre Rosiade asked the General Election Commission (KPU) to be wise in determining the moderator of the presidential-vice presidential debate.
The BPN, he said, asked that the KPU should reconsider the names of television media presenters who have been known to have a certain political tendency to one of the candidate pairs.
"We recommend that the names that have a track record of alignments, be skipped," said Andre, through a telephone connection on Friday (12/28).
Andre assessed that neutrality was important so that after the debate the community was not presented with new debates. Prabowo's camp expects the presenter to be strong and master the problem.
"But not right, not left," he said.
In essence, continued Andre, the Prabowo-Sandi camp did not want the presidential-vice presidential debate to be moderated by a controversial figure in the eyes of the public because of its political affiliation. Even though, said Andre, the moderator no longer joined the mass media known to the affiliated public to certain political interests.
"We can see political support in 2014. I think those who are suspected will provoke controversy later, do not proceed," said Andre asserted.
Previously, the KPU had released the names of prospective moderators for the first to fifth debate in the 2019 Presidential Election.
Interestingly, from the five debates, all moderators were media practitioners, mainly from the television world.
The six names were obtained by the KPU based on the agreement of the editors of electronic mass media. The names that appeared were Najwa Shihab, Alfito Deannova, Ira Koesno, Bayu Sutiyono, Tommy Tjokro, and Kania Sutisnawinata.
The names of the candidate moderators have been approved by the KPU. However, the KPU has not been able to determine who the moderator will lead the course of the first to fifth debate.
"Finally, there will be a meeting on December 28, Friday at 13.30 WIB to decide on the moderator of the debate," said KPU Chair, Arief Budiman, Wednesday (12/26).
